Frequently
Asked Questions
• What are the Steps?
To answer this question, please review
my Design Process page.
• What will it cost for a website?
Cost will depend solely on your needs on the site. Most are small and do not need a high fee to create (that some companies will charge). We need
to discuss your needs before I can figure out the
cost. Contact
me today to set up a time to talk!
• Can you do personal sites?
Heck yes! A site for your resumé, wedding, new baby, anything you can think
of I will be happy to design it for you. Get
more ideas here!
• How long will it take to design my site?
It can take anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of months. I take into
account the size and complexity of the site as well as any time it will take
you to gather the information and materials I need for your site. After speaking
with you, I can get a better idea of how quickly I’ll be able to get
your site up and running.
• Why should my business have a website?
By having a website for your business you can reach the entire world with the
services or products you're selling. You provide all the information about
your business 24/7. More
info here ->
• What
if I don't like a design idea? Am I stuck
with it?
No. I realize that everyone has different tastes and if at anytime you are
unsure of a design I would be happy to redesign it to your liking. During the
first phases of design I work with you to decide the look and feel of your
site. This includes color scheme, layout, etc. You are always a part of the
design process. Once the final design is approved by you, I begin the actual backend site construction.
• What if I want to add something to my site
at a later time?
After your site is finished you may decide go with a maintenance package,
but even if you don't, you can still have me update and maintain your site
at any time. Many fo my clients find it easiest and less costly if they just have me update their site as needed. Most of the time, that is every few months... NOT monthly. I have a minimum half hour rate for updates, so many little items together are very cost effective for you.
• After my site is completed who will maintain
it?
You can take advantage of my maintenance packages or, if your site doesn't
necessarily warrant maintenance, then I will update your site on a per request
basis.
• I live in another state, does that matter?
No. I can communicate with you by phone or email if you would like. Location
is not an issue. I have regular clients in Illinois, Tennessee and Scotland. Some I have never spoken to on the phone, or met in person.
• I am a small business; will I be able to
afford a website?
Yes. I understand the needs of small businesses and can build a site that
is within your budget. I will work with YOUR needs.
• Will my site look professional?
Definitely! I wouldn't think of designing a site that wasn't.
• What are some of the technologies you use?
Some of the web technologies I use are: HTML and CSS. I also work with some
PHP to build Blog sites using a program called WordPress.
• What
other programs do you work with? I've
worked with MANY programs in my career. Some
of the programs I use now are: Adobe PhotoShopCS,
IllustratorCS, InDesignCS and Acrobat Professional
and ImageReadyCS; Macromedia DreamWeaverMX,
FireworksMX and FlashMX; Microsoft Word,

• Okay...
I am interested, what do I do now?

started over the phone.
• Where
are you located?
I am located in Menasha, Wisconsin, in the heart of the Fox Cities but work with folks all over. I have regular clients in Illinois, Tennessee and Scotland.

is a domain name?

Example: www.calicatdesign.com.
• What
is E-commerce?
E-commerce (electronic commerce or EC) is the buying and selling of goods
and services on the Internet, especially the World Wide Web.
• What's
with the name.. CaliC@t?
Funny you should ask! I have two calico cats who both seem to feel they
need to help me work. They work pro bono as my supervisors and have no qualms about yelling at me if I am not at my desk working. |
